Kylee Nyholm: Digital Photograph.

This image was in response to an assignment in an Intermediate Digital Photography course, which asked students to create a narrative with “clones” or copies of a person. The assignment was intended to improve their Photoshop editing skills, particularly with layer masks, as well as challenge them to use their camera to properly execute the shots. Students were asked to convey a narrative by having the clones interact in some way.

Kristen Brown

Digital prints, folded and collaged

Wall hanging, 20”x30”

This image was in response to an assignment in an Advanced Photography course, which asked students to create a multimedia experimental piece with their photographs. This student printed and folded out images and reformed them physically into a folded 3D piece on the wall.

Rachel Bonderman: Book project
12”x12”
Printed by Blurb

For a final project in an Advanced Photography course, students laid out and printed a book. Students could handmake a simple photo book or send a print to a book printing company such as Blurb. The students had to use their own photographs to create either a portfolio book or a book on a single series. Many students chose to display their book in their senior exhibition, showcasing the best work from their college career.

The photograph itself was shot in our lighting studio, for a series about mental health struggles.

Trang Nguyen: Stop-motion animation

From a project in Experimental Video. Students were asked to create a brief stop motion animation for a mid-semester project. Trang created the scene, shot the images, layered the sound, and edited the final video.

Dylan Long - Dance Video

For this Experimental Video course, we collaborated on an assignment with a Dance Composition course. Our video students did the cinematography and editing, in consultation with the student choreographer and dancers. In many cases our students helped decide on locations, lighting, and other aspects of the videos. Students built upon their camera and editing skills from earlier assignments and added movement with gimbals to the piece, a challenging technique. The collaboration on an artistic vision with a very different artform (dance) was extremely rewarding for the students. I have developed a good working relationship with the Dance faculty in order to make these collaborations possible.
