In early 2012, our team of 6 artists created The Fort Shanty for the Art Shanty Projects, a month-long art installation/celebration on a frozen lake in the Twin Cities. We provided a warm, cozy spot in the middle of the icy lake to create the fort of one's dreams, with colorful blankets, cushions, clips and ropes galore. We programmed Snack Times and Nap Times, plus spontaneous games, knitting lessons, and tea and cocoa. Kids and adults alike found ways to create their own spaces, or simply admire the constructions made by previous occupants.
